What is the difference between a rehab program and others? Which drug and alcohol addiction detoxification and rehabilitation program should you or a loved one go? Do you know the different types or models of recovery?
Here is an overview of different approaches to detoxification and rehabilitation, I know that after working in the field of drug abuse for 8 years as a drug-rehabilitation consultant and a specialist in drug dependence.
MedicalDetox
Medical detox is the use of drugs such as benzodiazepines, clonidine, Suboxone, etc to avoid more smoothly someone of alcohol, methadone, opiates and other drugs. Approved medical facilities and doctors and staff are required to administer the various treatments that can help with difficult or otherwise, long Drawing these drugs.
Some medical detox facilities use a combination of medical and natural / holistic approaches to detoxification. TheseProcedures usually speed recovery time and convenience through the deduction for customer referrals.
Non-Medical Detox
This could mean someone withdrawing from drugs without drugs. Non-medical detoxification is often more effective than medical detox as a drug is the culprit drug is very ill and unwilling to take more drugs in their bodies. Non-drug detox can mean the highly skilled use of alternative nutrients, sometimes IV and natural therapya person is comfortable withdrawal and detoxification of drugs / medicines and proper functioning of the brain. (Agora Regeneration Clinics Ltd.)
Some medical and non-medical detox is very demanding and many testing and evaluation does not include records of the traditional medical detoxification centers. IU nutrients, vitamins and allergy tests, to name a few.
Bio-Physical Detox
Drug residues have placed themselves in the fatty tissues of the body get. These include the brain, kidney, liver, muscle and fat. Former drug addicts often go back to relapse with drugs because of a physical craving for drugs, they say, not gone after medical detox or rehab to.
Bio-physical detox involves a total and complete detoxification requires weeks or months of extensive natural detoxification methods such as saunas, vitamins and food supplements and intensive exercise, proper rest, improved diet, drinking lots ofWater, etc.
Some bio-physical detox has been extensive scientific testing and proven themselves in many different population groups - drug addicts, hazardous chemical / gas victims (fire, pesticides / herbicides – DDT, mental / spiritual enhancement that improve health. (See Townsend Letter April 2006 # 273)
Traditional & 12 Step Rehab Methods
Traditional and 12 Step models comprise approximately 95% of the rehab facility programs in the U.S. and Canada. Their success varies massively depending on the center and the center is defined as success. A center is very much different from others in terms of professionalism, care and outcomes.
12 Step programs attempt between the decisions to intervene in abuse of drugs and wants to stay clean. A drug addict or alcoholic solution, the problems of life with a drink fix, make, or other drugs. 12 Step Method to use, sponsors, meetings, activities, education, etc. techniques to stop further> Drug abuse. 12 Step programs also remind social education programs in step 4, when a personal responsibility which has a 12-step recovery engine expected. 12 Step includes principles of spiritual connection through-out process.
Medical and psychological programs use different drugs and caregivers in their efforts to intervene. Usually medical programs are either trying to comfort a client, while in rehab, or they have actually done some extensiveTo find tests that could be the underlying medical problems by stimulating substance abusers who consume drugs. A typical example is the hypo-thyroid conditions. Psychological approaches either try to deviant behavior by adjusting the mindset of the client correctly. It may mean, is ongoing counseling for completion in determinant amount of time after a stay in rehab.
Sometimes drugs that create an aversion to drink than with Schick Shadel programs are used. Other drugs to replacesuch as methadone for opiate and Ritalin used cocaine / meth abuse have been many program models.
Non-Traditional rehabilitation methods
Social education and learning models to improve skills and increase self-control or willpower through education or cognitive realization. Combinations of study, exercise, counseling and practical application of techniques are used to bring about desired states of being. Often a sort of therapeutic community isFounded by the camaraderie of people who each other through the difficult times of recovery.
As social and educational programs are my strength, I will list one of the specific programs that I am familiar with their posted rates of success.
Jude Thaddeus Program (JT), or St. Jew's is a social / educational approach rather than a medical-psychological methodology and share control over their own recovery into their own hands and not as a physician, psychologist or group. JT has oneOpportunity to recover permanently, JT's, because it is not a choice – to believe a disease. JT's quota for the successful 12 years over 68%. (Ref: St. Jew Retreat House)
Rational Recovery, or RR has a different approach than traditional methods, or 12 step. RR labels different behaviors and parts of a mental model of a person's cognitive or consciousness and regain control over their addiction. Emphasis on self-recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs through planned, permanent abstinence through greater self-awareness / control. (Ref: Jack Trimpey, founder RR)
