In 1980 a special program for doctors with drug problems and alcohol abuse has been developed. The program allows physicians who practice undergoing alcohol or drug rehab. But day after the Medical Board of California (MBC), five reports on the status of the program has proven to be ineffective and dangerous for the patient. The MBC has decided to close the program as of June of next year. Unless the program is by legislation, expand physicians with alcohol andProblems of substance abuse can also revoke their license, with zero tolerance. Medical drug or alcohol abuse would do well to take a half holiday and a successful alcohol or drug rehabilitation program rather than the risk presented.
The program requires testing of alcohol or drugs, group therapy and psychotherapy sessions as well as a self-appointed monitor that is monitoring every medical office. However, according to state reports, these requirementsare easily confused: Sometimes, the monitor is an employee of the physician, who was appointed is to lie, or you will ensure that the sessions of medical treatment, or urine tests are done a predictable schedule, the doctor may also plan their use of alcohol or drugs as a result.
A physician enrolled in the program for five years, said he was able to game the system for years and almost "concerned", while still using drugs.
One of the main reasons for theProgram will be that the doctors who actually continue to suffer from alcohol or drug treatment have no access to long term drug rehabilitation hospital, the most successful in practice.
The hearing included the grounds of MBC finally contain the alcohol and drug rehabilitation program in order to interrupt the statements of 10 patients injured by doctors. One woman said she later learned that plastic surgery was inappropriate for her disfiguredCondition. The plastic surgeon arrested two drunk driving, and several reports of negligence on the part of patients, but still allowed to continue in practice.
More than $ 500,000 was spent recently to solve the problems encountered in the first four reports, but auditors do not fully impressed with the improvements. "The Medical Council has settled … effective control" of the auditor Elaine Howl, wrote in his report. Julianne D'Angelo Fellmeth, a lawyer with the University ofSan Diego Center for Public Interest Law, calls "a staged program is a farce."
The program dealt with 400 doctors per year. Of the 249 currently enrolled, 140 in the program prescribed by a doctor and 99 in the program, because they were encouraged to do so by family, friends or colleagues.
There are 35,000 doctors in California, and everyone worked long and hard to get where they are. California has many alcohol and drug rehab successPrograms. If you know a doctor who abuses drugs or alcohol, you arrive at a successful alcohol or a drug rehabilitation program now. Do not let the risk everything they had and the lives and health of their patients.
